So now for something completely different (I see this a lot it seems).
Dragons and fantasy shit are what got me into this whole art thing in the first place and it's refreshing to actually get a gig where I get to draw actual DRAGONS.
This is the second round of pencil roughs for the "dragon" card for a card game now in development for Slugfest Games.
Fun stuff.

Some of the sketching I've been doing over the past few weeks.
Someone over at Deviantart suggested I draw Billy Bob from Slingblade so I gave it a shot. I love that movie.
20 minute sketch, brown col-erase pencil on sketch paper.
*Funky Fish Book update: For those of you who have ordered books, they're still at the printers. I am currently waiting for my proof to arrive. Hopefully I'll get them out by Christmas.
So I'm working on another TMNT pinup. This time I chose to do Splinter. At first I was leaning towards the typical "zen" pose for Splinter but after numerous roughs I realized I wanted to show him kicking some ass and what better bad guys for Splinter to be fighting than some Mousers.
Got together last night with a few pals to do some sketching. Here's the result.
I'll be doing a print of the cowboy, I really like how he came out. He fits perfectly in a 8x20 frame.
30 minute warm-up sketch.
Gen Con was awesome, we had a great time. It was good to go and not have to worry about a table and just play all weekend. I'm still recovering. Pictures forthcoming.
What a great weekend. Thanks go out to everyone who came to the party. I am wiped.
A quick sketch I did in Bull McCabes last Saturday while waiting on some friends to show up.
Whew. Here are the final pencils for the TMNT pinup. Eric said "go nuts and have fun with it", well I did both (now where am I going to put my signature...?) I'm probably going to ink on vellum which gives a super clean finish which I'm shooting for. It will appear in the book in black & white and I want to eliminate all my pencil "noise" and not ink directly on my pencils, which is what I usually do.
I believe it will appear in issue #45 of The Tales of the TMNT inside cover. I can't show the final inked version until it actually comes out so if you wanna see it go out and grab a copy.
Word.
Well I hinted last week that I had a project cooking for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Well I was contacted by Eric Talbot about doing a pinup for an upcoming issue of the TMNT comic book. I instantly said I'd love to and tried not to go all fanboy on him and maintain a measure of professionalism. This is my first rough and it may change a lot from now but this is my first go at it. You have no idea how cool it is to be drawing these guys. I was a big fan of the comic way back when they were still in black and white, before they became the mega stars they are now.
I worked on this a little last night. I'm pleased with the way he's turning out and plan on taking him to full color when I find some time.
A break from work stuff. I've still got a satyr girl in my head that I can't get out...
I remember doing this sketch on a post-it about ten years ago while I was on the phone at my grandmother's house. Around 2002 I scanned the rough, blew it up, worked over it and tightened it up. The big version was done on Letraset marker paper with a brown col-erase (my favorite pencil of all time) and a lead holder with 3H lead. I like harder leads because they don't smear nearly as much and I like the fact that the light lead gives a lot of freedom with your pressure versus light/dark lines. I press pretty hard anyway and harder lead doesn't break nearly as often and keeps a sharper point. So this sketch has sat in my portfolio since 2002. He has gotten so much positive feedback that I have toyed with the idea on finishing him up, full color. I'm usually hesitant on going back and working on older stuff but I think he deserves some more love.
