An interior spot illustration for WEGS. One of the few times I actually used photo reference. I'm not going to tell you what photo I used or where it came from but I will give you a hint... I have a subscription to a certain magazine and the reference photo I used is from my favorite issue (guitar-pick bikinis kick ass) they put out every year except for the one where Vince is on the cover. That was a pretty good hint.
Well it worked pretty well last week so I thought I'd try it again. It may become a weekly thing (hopefully) depending on participation. Congrats to Chalker for winning last week's. Feel free to come up with a cool name and you could win a print of "your" fish. Rock on.
I received a copy of the final print version of the Red Dragon Inn card game's box cover with all the type elements and I'm stoked, my first box cover! I think it looks great! Suh-weet. Check out Slugfest Games' new website. The site has a new design and you can preview some of the new stuff they've got coming out, including The Red Dragon Inn.
The paintjob's complete. All he needs now is some gloss resin for his mouth and eyes and he's completely complete.
"...a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind." - The Call of Cthulhu

I did this rough while waiting for my computer to reboot after multiple reboots and finally a complete re-install of my wacom tablet. Like I needed that crap today. I have to remember: "Violence and technology... NOT good bedfellows." And if you know where that line came from you are a badass. The rough's for a game coming out this summer and Larry of WEGS graciously let me post it.
If you don't know who Bill Nighy is this won't make much sense, but if you do it makes total sense. Good job Mr. Chalker for coming up with such an awesomely clever name.
I wasn't having the greatest day yesterday so I took a break from staring at the computer screen and pulled out this guy and decided to work on his paint job. I cranked up some butt rock and went to work.
Here are his base colors, about 5 to 6 drybrushing coats of various blues and purples.
I painted his belly white, did a base coat of rust red in his mouth and screwed in eyelets on the backside to hang him from.
He needs a few highlight coats, an antiquing to bring out the scales and a base coat of black for his eyes and teeth. Once that all dries, paint the teeth and eyes and a spray of varnish and he's complete and ready to hang.
Pretend his dorsal fin is a fiery orange tipped with gold.
My weekly post to the Austin Sketch Squad blog. It was my turn to pick the topic so I picked "Hand Turkeys". 15 minutes from start to finish and was surprising fun and liberating. Kindergarten's on to something...

My last post for the OZ topic at the ASS blog, drawn during commercial breaks last night while I watched 24.
Another one for the Oz topic over at the ASS blog. There's a whole lot of love going on over there for that topic. If you haven't checked it, you should.
Short for "I'm-Running-Low-On-Clever-Names" Fish.
Another sketch for the Oz topic. Heavily influenced by my playing Shadow of the Colossus all last week.
A warmup sketch I threw down for an idea I've had since meeting Jason McMaster a few weeks ago, lead singer for Broken Teeth and formerly the lead singer for Dangerous Toys. My band Bombsquad opened up for the Toys back in early '92 (the show that was raided by the cops at Hurricane Alley if you were there ;). Their music was a big influence on me and I always loved their album artwork done by Tommy Pons. Drawing rock & roll inspired artwork has always been my roots so it's always fun to get back to it. After sending this one to Jason I'll probably be doing some more stuff for them in the future for their new album "Electric".
Pulled into the magical world of Oz against her will, Dorothy Gale of Kansas traveled through the land to find the wizard who could return her home. Accompanied by her faithful hell hound Toto and armed with her battleaxe "Witch Hammer" she slew all who opposed her.

I love sharks.
Nothing more fun than drawing drunk, passed-out dwarves on a Saturday night! Yeah right. Here's a piece I did for WEGS' Old School Intro book due out this summer.
I've had a few requests to show the complete illustration that my profile pic came from so here it is. One day I might finish him...

Here's a photo of me and my table at Staple! my pal Ren sent me. This show was a lot of fun, I'll definitely be doing it again next year. Thanks for the photo Ren.
By request I'm offering this guy (left) as a new dragon print. It's entitled "Dragon Perch". Prints will be 11x17 on archival mat paper, each will be signed and numbered (limited run of 100). $25 + $5 S&H.
Also, I still have copies of "Dreaming of Wings" prints left. It's a limited run of 500, 11x14 on archival watercolor paper, signed and number and each copy comes with the great stanza written by my good friend Loren Hoskins. These look great framed (ask my Grandmother, she has one over her mantle). $20 + $5 S&H.
Contact me or comment if you'd like one. Thanks.
Another great name, thanks Larry.
Another dragon for the ASS weekly post. Unintentionally a sister piece to "Dreaming of Wings". This one's for you Pop.
