Blanket
Vampires can still attack you, if you cross your fingers
Vanquished demons never leave you, some part always lingers.
Humbly mumbled counter-spells, can rarely save your soul
And though you might create the beast, you'll never have control.
There are no silver bullets you can fire at your fears.
There's nothing that works, just half as good, as blankie 'round your ears.*Our contribution to Illustration Friday: Blanket. It's much less ambitious than I had originally planned and after a few unsuccessful attempts I realized I had to rein back a bit.

Great work. No need to reign it in...
Best wishes...
Very cool, nice dramatic lighting.
Nicely drawn, and the poetry adds a lot to it.
even at my age, i find a blanket is a great protector! love your illustration!
a : )
Freaky-deeky! Nicely done.
His eyes are so expressive. Nice lighting!
I wonder what it was that made you want to 'reign it back'...
Regardless of whatever it was, excellent illustration. That is one gross-oh tentacle.
Oh, and I'm really enjoying your monster post/poetry pairings. : )
Under your blankie your safe from everything, very nice work.
reign it in? this is so perfect. blankies have a special place in our home and their power should never be underestimated! you got it right on...AGAIN. well done, my friend.
Very effective. :)
the lighting makes this one. Can I request a lady-monster?
Micheal - Hey thanks. Best wishes to you.
ryanloghyr - Thanks!
danschultz - Thanks and Loren nailed it with the poem.
mrs. b - Yes I think so too. Thank you very much.
ludachristian - Freaky deeky is high praise. Thanks.
gumballgrenade - Thanks, I did a few sketches before I got them right.
alicia - Originally Loren's description had a bed, magazines on the bed, multiple monsters/hands/tenacles/etc... I finally realized I had to simplify to get something done.
jo - Thanks!
beejaycee - Thanks. I probably have too many blankets in my house. Some have a great deal of sentimental value so I agree.
lana gramlich - I appreciate it :)
dawna - Shouldn't you be making cookies?
I gotta work, ya know!
I can't even believe I gotta spend $50 to FedEx overnight a batch of two dollar cookies.
The long landscape composition is great, it really exentuates the tenticle. I also really like the expression of the charater and the light.
Can't believe I missed this one earlier! The horizontal composition really makes it.
I know what you mean about reining it in... that's my personal challenge in finishing ANY just-for-I.F. submission on time! Backgrounds take soooo long to do right. But given the subject matter the abstract color works great here, so don't worry about it. (And ya can always add that background in later if you really want...)
