Arvid Olaf Draugr

His name was Arvid Olaf and Draugr was the last.
A captain never was so despised by men before the mast.

"We cut him from his hawser. We spun his guts to twine.

We feed him lead and pitched him o'er and so besmurched the brine."

So let this speak as epitaph, to mark his gruesome life.

For those who plant the seeds of woe will harvest only strife.

*Okay, I got a little carried away with this one but he was a good distraction. Also my submission to this week's Illustration Friday: Tales and Legends. Words by Mr. Hoskins.

Me? I am crazy about his Tsunami tongue and the negative space it creates. Gives the feeling of waves on the high sea with no boat in sight. A fantastic piece, KJ.

Nostrils, teeth, tongue, knuckles, the button - I dont' know where to start. Amazing detail. Where did you find this Loren guy anyway?? Ya'll are like PB&J - great together. I will buy the book in a years time.
Which comes first..the words or the art?

john - Thanks man.

totoro - Thank you sir.

dawna - Well usually the pictures come first. I have been sketching them out then sending the pages to Loren and he comes up with the words. In this guy's case, Loren did the write up for another picture (which will appear later)and I visualized this guy instead. So in this case, the words came first.

Loren and I met up in Portland while working at Mongadillo. He wrote/created/voice talented Shawks. We have toyed with the idea on collaborating on something over the years but unfortunately nothing has ever materialized. Hopefully this little exercise will lead to more.
