Inktober! Days 1, 2, and some thumbnails.
So, I'm
attempting to participate in Inktober
(http://mrjakeparker.tumblr.com/post/62695493968/inktober-starts-next-week-thirty-one-days).
Basically an inked drawing every day for the month of October. Here are
my first two and the thumbnails I did while watching TV to get a jump
start on the month.

Cthulhu ABC's
So I am starting the planning phase for a Kickstarter for my new project: "Cthulhu ABC's". I am currently doing my homework, ie: reading source material, books, and relevant articles, studying successful Kickstarter campaigns, crunching the numbers, getting quotes from printers, having conversations with artists and friends who have traveled this path, doing promotional artwork while completing the writing, and starting the buzz up on social media sites, notably my Kennon James Illustration Facebook page (here).
The book itself has been in the works, on and off for about 5 years. I remember sitting behind my table at a convention in Dallas when I came up with the idea and started jotting ideas down on a yellow legal pad. Since then I have written and rewritten most of the text that will be in the final book.
While a Cthulhu/Lovecraft inspired ABC book may not be the most groundbreaking original idea ever, I have really enjoyed writing and illustrating it and think some other fans of the genre may enjoy my take on it too. Besides, more Lovecraft in the world is a good thing.
Over the next several weeks (and months?) I will post updates to the book and progress reports and will hopefully launch the Kickstarter soon to help fund the book and bring it into reality. I hope you follow me on this journey.

#1
I'm starting a new,
probably unrealistic and far too ambitious, project to draw a monster a
day, every day for 2013. We'll see how long this lasts. That being
said, here's #1 with his junk hanging out.

Phrenk - the first 8
Here's a preview of one of the characters I've been working on - Phrenk the troll alchemist - from Slugfest Games' Red Dragon Inn 3, the newest installment of that game due out this Spring/Summer. (click to see it biggie sized)

Shape Challenge #1
I did this as warm up today. It's a weekly exercise for a group I joined on DeviantArt called Design-A-Character. Each month there will be a different challenge that goes throughout the month, with variants every week. This month's is "Shape Challenge"- every Monday a new set of shapes are put up and the exercise is to create characters with them.
This is very similar to a game I played with my friends as a kid. It's pretty fun to get back to it.

Trolling - part 2

Trolling
So one of the first things I've been working on this year is a new character for Slugfest Games' Red Dragon Inn 3. His name is Phrenk, a troll alchemist. These are the first two waves of roughs, the first being quick pencil roughs to wrap my head around the character, the second being a tighter concept based on the art director's suggestions (basically B with D's nose) and a little color to show the AD what I was thinking as far as color-scheme. Originally being green in my rough, Phrenk is now a light blue. Stay tuned for more.

Skinny
Although abnormally skinny and frail in atmosphere,
Cobbler Franklin was surprisingly strong and earnest
in his resurrection work.
Another resurrection man for Illustration Friday's topic: Skinny. Resurrection men was another name for grave robbers, which was a lucrative career at one time. Pretty creepy...
Happy Halloween everyone.

Mohagen - 020 The Haunted Fishbowl
Just in time for Halloween, Grady and Mo get into the act. As usual, you can see all the strips here. Happy Halloween everyone.

Freeze
While going about his nightly resurrection work,
Lycurgus heard ghastly voices upon the air,
and his blood turned to freeze...
I haven't done an illustration for Illustration Friday for a LONG time and was inspired to do one today. Just something for fun.

Mohagen - 015 Physics of Revenge
Mo started something he didn't want to see finished.
You may have to read the previous few weeks to see how the guys got to this point HERE.

Mohagen - 011 Destiny
The first double-sized, full color, "Sunday" edition strip. I really think Loren and I are catching out stride. We're discussing speeding the frequency of the strips up. Maybe two a week, we shall see.
And, as always, you can see all the Mohagen strips HERE.
